Sahih Muslim 2177b (Book 39, Hadith 38) #12776
Making Room for Others

SUMMARY: It is wrong to ask someone to stand up and take their place. Instead, one should politely ask them to make room for them.

Ibn 'Umar reported Allah's Messenger as saying: No person should ask another person to stand at his place and then he should himself sit there, but he should simply say: Make room and accommodate.

QUICK LESSONS:
Ask politely when requesting something from someone else.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us the importance of being polite and courteous when asking others for something. We should not demand or expect people to give up their space or possessions without asking politely first. Instead of saying “get out of my way”, we should say “please make room” or “could you please accommodate me?” This shows respect and consideration towards others, which is an important value in Islam. We must always remember that everyone deserves respect regardless of who they are or what they have done.
