Dyeing Hair According to the Prophet's Advice

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad advised Abu Qubafa to dye his white hair with something other than black.

Jabir b. 'Abdullah reported that Abu Qubafa was led (to the audience of the Holy Prophet) on the day of the Conquest of Mecca and his head and beard were white like hyssop, whereupon Allah's Messenger said: Change it with something but avoid black.

This hadith teaches us that we should take care of our appearance, but also be mindful not to go against what is recommended by Islam in doing so. We should also respect our elders, as shown by how Allah's Messenger addressed Abu Qubafa in a respectful manner despite his age and grey hair.
