Sahih al-Bukhari 1306 (Book 23, Hadith 64) #1256
The Pledge of Allegiance to the Prophet (ﷺ)

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the pledge of allegiance to the Prophet (ﷺ) and how it was not fulfilled by all except five women.

Narrated Um 'Atiyya: At the time of giving the pledge of allegiance to the Prophet one of the conditions was that we would not wail, but it was not fulfilled except by five women and they are Um Sulaim, Um Al-'Ala', the daughter of Abi Sabra (the wife of Mu'adh), and two other women; or the daughter of Abi Sabra and the wife of Mu'adh and another woman.

QUICK LESSONS:
Keep your promises/pledges even during difficult times; Be strong in your faith; Do not give into sadness or despair.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a pledge that was taken by people when they accepted Islam. It was narrated by Um 'Atiyya who said that one of the conditions for taking this pledge was not to wail or cry in sadness. However, only five women were able to fulfill this condition and they were named as Um Sulaim, Um Al-'Ala', the daughter of Abi Sabra and two other women or just the daughter of Abi Sabra and wife of Mu'adh with another woman. This hadith teaches us that we should be strong in our faith even during difficult times and not give into sadness or despair. We should also strive to fulfill our promises no matter what happens so that we can be trusted by others.
