Appreciating Food

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad never complained about food, and if he liked it he would eat it, and if not he would leave it.

Abu Huraira reported that Allah's Messenger never found fault with food (served to him). If he liked anything, he ate it and if he did not like it he left it.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be grateful for what you have been given in life; appreciate all that is provided; practice moderation when eating; thank Allah for His blessings by being mindful of how you consume them
EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith of Abu Huraira speaks to the importance of appreciating food. It is reported that the Prophet Muhammad never found fault with food served to him. If he liked something, he ate it and if not, then left it without complaint. This teaches us that we should be grateful for what we have been given in life and appreciate all that is provided for us. We should also be mindful of our words when speaking about food or anything else in life as this can have a negative impact on our relationships with others. Furthermore, this hadith encourages us to practice moderation when eating as overeating can lead to health problems such as obesity or diabetes. Finally, this hadith reminds us that Allah has blessed us with so much abundance in life and we should always remember to thank Him for His blessings by being mindful of how we consume them.
