Sahih Muslim 2050 (Book 36, Hadith 223) #12451
The Pleasure of Picking Fruit

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions plucking fruit from a tree, and the Prophet's advice to only pick the black ones as they are more pleasant.

Jabir b. Abdullah reported: We were with the Messenger of Allah at Marr az-Zahran, and we were plucking the fruit of the Arak tree, whereupon Allah's Messenger (may peace he upon him) said: Pluck only its black ones (for they are the most pleasant). We said: Allah's Messenger, it seems you shepherded the flock. He said: Yes. Has there been a prophet who did not shepherd it (or some words like it)?

QUICK LESSONS:
Be mindful of your actions; Be considerate; Take care of people in your community
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about when the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was with his companions at Marr az-Zahran, and they were plucking fruit from an Arak tree. The Prophet ﷺ advised them to only pick the black ones as they are more pleasant. He then asked if there has been any prophet who did not shepherd a flock, implying that it was part of their job description to take care of people in their community. This hadith teaches us that we should be mindful of our actions and be considerate when picking things for ourselves or others, as well as being aware that prophets have always been shepherds for their people in some way or another.
