Sahih al-Bukhari 1293 (Book 23, Hadith 51) #1243
Comforting a Grieving Family

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the daughter or sister of 'Amr who was crying when her father or brother was being taken away after being martyred in the Battle of Uhud. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) comforted her by saying that the angels were shading him with their wings until he was shifted away.

Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah: On the day of the Battle of Uhud, my father was brought and he had been mutilated (in battle) and was placed in front of Allah's Messenger and a sheet was over him. I went intending to uncover my father but my people forbade me; again I wanted to uncover him but my people forbade me. Allah's Messenger gave his order and he was shifted away. At that time he heard the voice of a crying woman and asked, "Who is this?" They said, "It is the daughter or the sister of 'Amr". He said, "Why does she weep? (or let her stop weeping), for the angels had been shading him with their wings till he (ie the body of the martyr) was shifted away".

QUICK LESSONS:
Offer words of comfort and solace during difficult times; Offer emotional support through our words and actions; Remember those who have passed on are still under protection from Allah .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a woman who was grieving for her father or brother, who had been martyred in the Battle of Uhud. When Allah's Messenger saw this, he comforted her by telling her that angels were shading him with their wings until his body was shifted away. This teaches us to be compassionate and understanding towards those who are grieving and to offer them words of comfort and solace during difficult times. It also reminds us that even though we may not be able to physically help someone, we can still offer them emotional support through our words and actions. We should also remember that those who have passed on are still under the protection of Allah, as He has promised to take care of them even after they have left this world.
