Sahih Muslim 2040g (Book 36, Hadith 196) #12424
Sharing Food with Neighbours

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) being hungry and Abu Talha, Umm Sulaim, Anas b. Malik and their neighbours sharing a meal together.

Anas b. Malik reported: Abu Talha saw Allah's Messenger lying down upon his belly in the mosque. He came to Umm Sulaim and said: I saw Allah's Messenger lying down upon the belly in the mosque, and I think he is hungry. The rest of the hadith is the same (but with the addition of these words) that Allah's messenger ate (the food) and so did Abu Talha, Umm Sulaim and Anas b. Malik, but there was left some. thing which we presented to our neighbours.

QUICK LESSONS:

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's generosity and kindness towards his neighbours. It was reported by Anas b. Malik that Abu Talha saw the Prophet lying down in the mosque and thought he was hungry, so he went to Umm Sulaim to get some food for him. They all shared a meal together, but there was still some left over which they gave to their neighbours as charity or sadaqah. This hadith teaches us that we should be generous with our food and share it with those around us who are in need of it, especially our neighbours who live close by us. We should also be kind to others even if we don't know them very well because this is what Allah expects from us as Muslims - to show kindness towards one another regardless of whether we are related or not. Furthermore, this hadith also encourages hospitality among people; when someone comes into your home you should welcome them warmly and offer them something to eat or drink if you can afford it - this will make them feel at ease in your presence and will create a strong bond between you both which could lead to further friendship or even business opportunities in future!
