Table Manners of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was seen licking his fingers after finishing a meal.

Ibn Ka'b b. Malik reported on the authority of his father that he saw Allah's Messenger licking his three fingers (after having finished the food). Ibn Hatim made no mention of" three". This hadith is also narrated through another chain of transmitters.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ، قَالُوا حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ، مَهْدِيٍّ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنِ ابْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ يَلْعَقُ أَصَابِعَهُ الثَّلاَثَ مِنَ الطَّعَامِ ‏.‏ وَلَمْ يَذْكُرِ ابْنُ حَاتِمٍ الثَّلاَثَ ‏.‏ وَقَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ فِي رِوَايَتِهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the table manners of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. It is reported that Ibn Ka'b b. Malik saw the Prophet licking his fingers after having finished a meal, which shows us that it was part of his etiquette to do so in order to ensure that all food particles were consumed and not wasted. This hadith also teaches us to be mindful and conscious of our actions when eating, as we should strive to emulate the manners and etiquette of our beloved prophet in all aspects of life. We should also take care not to waste any food or leave any particles behind on our plates, as this would go against Islamic teachings on being mindful with resources and avoiding wastage whenever possible.
