Sahih Muslim 1998c, 1999a (Book 36, Hadith 78) #12308
Preparing Nabidh in Stone Bowls

SUMMARY: Allah's Messenger forbade the preparation of Nabidh in certain containers and instead it was prepared for him in a bowl made of stone.

Jabir b. 'Abdullah reported that Allah's Messenger forbade (the preparation) of Nabidh in green pitcher, in varnished jar, in hollow stump, and when Allah's Messenger did not find anything to prepare Nabidh in that (i. e. waterskin), it was prepared for him in a big bowl made of stone.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the preparation of a drink called Nabidh. It is reported that Allah's Messenger forbade the preparation of this drink in green pitchers, varnished jars and hollow stumps. Instead he asked for it to be prepared for him in a big bowl made of stone. This hadith teaches us that we should be careful about what materials we use to prepare food or drinks as some materials may not be suitable or safe to use. We should also take care when preparing food or drinks so that they are safe and healthy for consumption. Furthermore, this hadith also teaches us to respect our elders by being attentive to their needs and requests even if they seem small or insignificant such as asking for something to be prepared using specific materials like stone bowls instead of other containers like green pitchers or varnished jars.
