Prohibiting the Preparation of Nabidh

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) forbade the preparation of Nabidh in certain containers.

Muharib b. Dithar reported: I heard Ibn 'Umar say: Allah's Messenger forbade (the preparation of Nabidh) in a pitcher besmeared with pitch, in gourd, in varnished jar. He said, I heard it from him more than once.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، وَابْنُ، بَشَّارٍ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ مُحَارِبِ بْنِ دِثَارٍ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ، يَقُولُ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ عَنِ الْحَنْتَمِ وَالدُّبَّاءِ وَالْمُزَفَّتِ ‏.‏ قَالَ سَمِعْتُهُ غَيْرَ مَرَّةٍ

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith, Prophet Muhammad PBUH is reported to have forbidden the preparation of a beverage called Nabidh in certain containers such as pitchers besmeared with pitch, gourds and varnished jars. This prohibition was mentioned more than once by the Prophet PBUH and it is important for Muslims to abide by it. The hadith teaches us that we should be mindful of our actions and follow what has been prescribed by Allah SWT and His Messenger PBUH. It also reminds us that we should be careful about what we consume as there are certain restrictions on how food or drinks can be prepared or stored according to Islamic teachings.
