Sahih Muslim 1980b (Book 36, Hadith 6) #12236
Prohibition of Liquor

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the prohibition of liquor and how Anas b. Malik and Abu Talha responded to it by pouring out the pitchers of Fadikh.

'Abd al-Aziz b. Suhaib reported: They (some persons) asked Anas b. Malik, about Fadikh (that is, a wine prepared from fresh dates), whereupon he said: There was no liquor with us except this Fadikh of yours. It was only this Fadikh that I had been serving to Abu Talha and Abu Ayyub and some persons from amongst the Companions of the Messenger of Allah in our house. When a person came and said: Has the news reached you? We said, #He said: Verily liquor has been declared forbidden. Thereupon, Abd Talha said: Anas, spill these large pitchers. He (the narrator) said: They then never reverted to it, nor even asked about this after the announcement by that person.

QUICK LESSONS:
Obey Allah's commands & prohibitions quickly, Respond positively towards Islamic teachings & values

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the prohibition of liquor in Islam and how Anas b. Malik and Abu Talha responded to it when they heard the news that liquor was forbidden. When a person came to them with this announcement, they immediately poured out all their pitchers of Fadikh which was a type of wine made from fresh dates that they were serving at their house for some companions of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ . They never reverted back to drinking or even asking about it after this announcement was made clear to them. This hadith teaches us that we should be quick in responding positively when we hear something related to Islamic teachings or values so as not to delay our obedience towards Allah SWT's commands and prohibitions. It also shows us how important it is for us as Muslims to stay away from anything that has been declared forbidden by Allah SWT so as not fall into sinning or disobeying Him in any way possible.
