Sahih Muslim 1964 (Book 35, Hadith 20) #12188
Sacrifice After Prophet Muhammad

SUMMARY: Allah's Messenger ﷺ instructed those who had slaughtered their animals ahead of him to slaughter another one in its place, and not to sacrifice the animal before he had sacrificed his own.

Jabir b. 'Abdullah reported: Allah's Messenger led us in the 'Id prayer in Medina on the Day of Sacrifice. Some persons slaughtered their animals ahead of him under the impression that Allah's Apostle had-already offered sacrifice. Thereupon Allah's Apostle said: Those who had slaughtered their animals ahead of him should slaughter the other ones in their stead. And they should not sacrifice the animal before Allah's Messenger had sacrificed (his animal)
