Sahih al-Bukhari 1265 (Book 23, Hadith 26) #1218
Funeral Rites for a Person Who Died in Arafat

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) taught us how to perform the funeral rites of a person who died in Arafat.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: While a man was riding (his Mount) in 'Arafat, he fell down from it (his Mount) and broke his neck (and died). The Prophet said, "Wash him with water and Sidr and shroud him in two pieces of cloth, and neither perfume him, nor cover his head, for he will be resurrected on the Day of Resurrection saying, Labbaik,' (ie like a pilgrim)".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us about the funeral rites of a person who dies in Arafat. According to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, when someone dies in this holy place, they should be washed with water and sidr and then shrouded with two pieces of cloth. It is important to note that no perfume or head covering should be used as these are not necessary for their resurrection on the Day of Judgement. They will be resurrected saying “Labbaik” which is an Arabic phrase meaning “Here I am at Your service”. This hadith reminds us that death is inevitable and we must always remember our ultimate purpose which is to serve Allah SWT and strive towards His pleasure.
