Chasing the Hare at Marr az-Zahrin

SUMMARY: Anas b. Malik reported that he and his companions chased a hare in Marr az-Zahrin, and he was able to catch it. He brought it to Abu Talha who slaughtered it and sent its haunch and two hind legs as a gift to the Prophet (PBUH).

Anas b. Malik reported: We chased a hare at Marr az-Zahrin (a valley near Mecca). They (my companions) ran, but felt exhausted; I also tried until I caught hold of it. I brought it to Abu Talha. He slaughtered it and sent its haunch and two hind legs to Allah's Messenger through me; and he accepted them.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about Anas b. Malik's experience of chasing a hare at Marr az-Zahrin with his companions, where they all felt exhausted but he was able to catch it eventually. He then brought the hare to Abu Talha who slaughtered it and sent its haunch and two hind legs as a gift for Allah's Messenger ﷺ through him, which was accepted by the Prophet ﷺ. This hadith teaches us about perseverance, generosity, sacrifice, respect for animals, gratitude towards gifts given by others etc., which are values that should be instilled in children from an early age so they can grow up into responsible adults with strong moral values. It also shows us how we should always strive hard in whatever we do even if there is difficulty involved because our efforts will be rewarded one way or another if we keep trying until we succeed.
