Sahih Muslim 1940a (Book 34, Hadith 49) #12125
Prohibiting Eating Donkey Meat

SUMMARY: Allah's Messenger prohibited the eating of donkey meat as it is a loathsome evil of Satan's doing.

Anas reported: When Allah's Messenger conquered Khaibar, we caught hold of the asses outside the village. We cooked them (their flesh). Then the announcer of Allah's Messenger made the announcement: Listen, verily Allah and His Messenger have prohibited you (the eating of) their (flesh), for it is a loathsome evil of Satan's doing. Then the earthen pots were turned over along with what was in them, and these were brimming (with flesh) at that time.

QUICK LESSONS:
Obey God and His messenger in all matters

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the prohibition of eating donkey meat. It was narrated by Anas ibn Malik, who reported that when Allah's Messenger conquered Khaibar, they caught hold of some donkeys outside the village and cooked them. The announcer then made an announcement that Allah and His Messenger have prohibited the eating of their flesh as it is a loathsome evil from Satan’s doing. As such, all earthen pots were turned over along with what was in them which were brimming with donkey meat at that time. This hadith teaches us to obey Allah and His messenger in all matters even if we do not understand why something has been prohibited or commanded by Him. We should also be aware that anything which has been forbidden by God must be avoided as it can lead to harm or destruction for us in this world and hereafter.
