Sahih al-Bukhari 1257 (Book 23, Hadith 19) #1211
Washing the Deceased and Shrouding Them

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) instructed his companions to wash his daughter's body a few times and then notify him when they were done. He then provided them with a waist-sheet to use as her shroud.

Narrated Um 'Atiyya: The daughter of the Prophet expired, and he said to us, "Wash her three or five times, or more if you see it necessary, and when you finish, notify me". So, (when we finished) we informed him and he unfastened his waist-sheet and told us to shroud her in it.

QUICK LESSONS:
Wash the deceased's body according to Islamic rites; Treat those who have passed away with respect; Follow funeral rites carefully; Notify those who need notification after completing funeral rites; Provide proper burial garments for those who have passed away; Show compassion towards others during difficult times such as death or illness.

EXPLANATIONS:
When someone passes away, it is important to follow certain rituals in order to honor their memory. This hadith tells us that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ instructed his companions to wash the body of his deceased daughter three or five times, depending on what was necessary. After this was done, he asked them to notify him so that he could provide them with a waist-sheet for her shroud. This shows us how important it is for Muslims to take care of their dead and treat them with respect even after they have passed away. It also teaches us that we should be mindful of our actions when dealing with death and funerals as these are sacred moments in our lives.
