Respectful Family Relationships

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) forbade people from coming to their family like an unexpected night visitor, doubting their fidelity and spying into their lapses.

It has been narrated (through a different chain of transmitters) on the authority of Jabir who said: The Messenger of Allah forbade that a man should come to his family like (an unexpected) night visitor doubting their fidelity and spying into their lapses.

QUICK LESSONS:
Come home with respect and kindness; Do not doubt your families' loyalty; Do not spy on your families without permission; Maintain a healthy relationship between all members of the family.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of respectful family relationships. It was narrated by Jabir ibn Abdullah al-Ansari that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) forbade people from coming to their family like an unexpected night visitor, doubting their fidelity and spying into their lapses. This means that one should not come to his or her family with suspicion or doubt in mind, as this would be disrespectful and hurtful towards them. Instead, one should come with respect and kindness in order to maintain a healthy relationship between all members of the family. Furthermore, it is important for us to remember that we should not spy on our families or try to find out information about them without permission as this would also be disrespectful towards them.
