Sahih Muslim 1904a (Book 33, Hadith 214) #12024
Fighting in the Way of Allah

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) explains that the one who fights to exalt the word of Allah is fighting in the way of Allah.

It has been narrated on the authority of Abu Musa Ash'ari that a desert Arab came to the Prophet and said: Messenger of Allah, one man fights for the spoils of war; another fights that he may be remembered, and another fights that he may see his (high) position (achieved as a result of his valour in fighting). Which of these is fighting in the cause of God? The Messenger of Allah said: Who fights so that the word of Allah is exalted is fighting in the way of Allah.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about fighting for a cause and how it relates to God. It is narrated by Abu Musa Ash'ari, who was a companion of Prophet Muhammad, that a desert Arab came to him and asked which type of fighter is considered as fighting in the cause of God. The Prophet answered that whoever fights so that the word of Allah is exalted, they are considered as fighting in His way. This hadith teaches us that we should strive to do good deeds and fight for what is right so that we can be closer to God and be rewarded by Him. We should not fight for selfish reasons or out of pride but instead focus on doing what will bring us closer to Him and make His name more respected among people.
