Sahih Muslim 1841 (Book 33, Hadith 70) #11880
The Responsibilities of a Commander

SUMMARY: The Prophet of Allah taught that a commander of the Muslims is responsible for protecting them from tyrants and aggressors, and will be rewarded if they enjoin fear of God and dispense justice.

It has been narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Prophet of Allah said: A commander (of the Muslims) is a shield for them. They fight behind him and they are protected by (him from tyrants and aggressors). If he enjoins fear of God, the Exalted and Glorious, and dispenses justice, there will be a (great) reward for him; and if he enjoins otherwise, it redounds on him.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us about the responsibilities that come with being a commander in the Muslim community. It is important to remember that as a leader, one must protect their people from tyrants and aggressors, while also encouraging them to have fear for God and dispense justice. If these responsibilities are fulfilled, then there will be great reward in store for the commander. On the other hand, if these duties are not fulfilled then it will reflect poorly on them. This hadith serves as an important reminder to all leaders to take their roles seriously and fulfill their duties with integrity so they can receive rewards from God Almighty.
