Obeying Those in Authority

SUMMARY: The Holy Prophet advised to listen and obey those in authority, even if they are slaves or disabled.

It has been narrated on the authority of Abu Dharr who said: My friend (i. e. the Holy Prophet) advised me to listen (to the man in position of authority) and obey (him) even if he were a slave maimed (and disabled).
وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ بَرَّادٍ الأَشْعَرِيُّ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ قَالُوا حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ إِدْرِيسَ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي عِمْرَانَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ، عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ، قَالَ إِنَّ خَلِيلِي أَوْصَانِي أَنْ أَسْمَعَ وَأُطِيعَ وَإِنْ كَانَ عَبْدًا مُجَدَّعَ الأَطْرَافِ

This hadith is about the importance of obedience and respect for those in authority. The Holy Prophet Muhammad advised Abu Dharr to listen and obey even if the person in authority was a slave or disabled. We should not judge people based on their appearance but rather on their character and actions. Furthermore, this hadith also teaches us that we should be humble and not think too highly of ourselves because everyone has something valuable to offer regardless of their background or position in society.
