Sahih Muslim 1832e (Book 33, Hadith 41) #11851
Receiving Charity on Behalf of the State

SUMMARY: The Prophet appointed a man to receive charity from the people on behalf of the State and when he returned with a large number of things, he said some were gifts for the Prophet.

It has been narrated on the authority of Abu Humaid as-Sa'idi that the Messenger of Allah appointed a man in charge of Sadaqa (authorising him to receive charity from the people on behalf of the State). He came (back to the Holy prophet) with a large number of things and started saying: This is for you and this has been presented to me as a gift. Here follows the tradition that has gone before except that 'Urwa (one of the narrators in the chain of transmitters) asked Abu Humaid: Did you hear it from the Messenger of Allah (himself) ? He replied: My ears heard it from his mouth.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about how the Prophet Muhammad appointed a man to receive charity from people on behalf of the state. When this man returned with a large number of things, he said some were gifts for the Prophet. This shows that it is important to be honest and truthful in all matters, especially when dealing with money or other resources. It also teaches us that we should not take advantage of our positions or authority by taking more than what is rightfully ours. We should always be generous and give back to those who are less fortunate than us, as this will bring blessings upon us in return. Furthermore, it teaches us that we should always be grateful for any kind of help or assistance we receive from others and show appreciation towards them accordingly.
