Sahih al-Bukhari 1227 (Book 22, Hadith 4) #1182
Completing Prayers and Prostrations

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) taught his companions that if they forget to perform a part of their prayer, they should complete it and perform two prostrations.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet led us in the 'Asr or the Zuhr prayer and finished it with Taslim. Dhul-Yadain said to him, "O Allah's Messenger ! Has the prayer been reduced?" The Prophet asked his companions in the affirmative. So Allah's Messenger I offered two more rak'at and then performed two prostrations (of Sahu). Sa'd said, "I saw that 'Urwa bin Az-Zubair had offered two rak'at in the Maghrib prayer and finished it with Taslim. He then talked (and when he was informed about it) he completed the rest of his prayer and performed two prostrations, and said, 'The Prophet prayed like this'. "

QUICK LESSONS:
Complete your prayers properly following examples set by Prophets
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us the importance of completing our prayers correctly. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was leading his companions in prayer when Dhul-Yadain asked him if the prayer had been reduced. The Prophet ﷺ then completed two more rak'ats and performed two prostrations. Similarly, 'Urwa bin Az-Zubair had forgotten to complete his Maghrib prayer but when he was informed about it he completed the rest of his prayer and performed two prostrations as an example from the Prophet ﷺ himself. This shows us that we must be careful to complete our prayers properly and not forget any parts of them. We should also take care to follow the example set by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in all aspects of life so that we can live according to Allah's will.
