Then he prayed for rain. That day I met Zaid b. Arqam. There was only one man between me and him (at that time). I asked him: How many military expeditions did the Messenger of Allah undertake? He said: Nineteen expeditions. I asked him: On how many expeditions did you accompany him? He said: On seventeen expeditions. I asked: Which was the first expedition he led? He answered: Dhat-ul-, Usair or Ushair.

QUICK LESSONS:
Spread Islam peacefully through means such as military expeditions; Be humble like Zaid; Learn from teachers

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith recounts a conversation between Abu Ishaq and Zaid b. Arqam in which Abu Ishaq asked how many military expeditions did the Prophet Muhammad undertake and on how many did Zaid accompany him? To this, Zaid replied that the Prophet undertook 19 expeditions and he accompanied him on 17 of them with Dhat-ul-, Usair or Ushair being the first one. This hadith highlights an important aspect of Islamic history as it shows us how much effort was put into spreading Islam through peaceful means such as military expeditions rather than violence or force. It also teaches us to be humble like Zaid who despite accompanying the Prophet on so many journeys still considered himself to be a student learning from his teacher - something we should all strive for in our own lives.
