Sahih al-Bukhari 1222 (Book 21, Hadith 26) #1177
Distractions During Prayer

SUMMARY: This hadith explains that when a person is praying, Satan will try to distract them by making them forget how many rak'at they have prayed.

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Messenger said, "When the Adhan for the prayer is pronounced, then Satan takes to his heels passing wind so that he may not hear the Adhan and when the Mu'adh-dhin finishes, he comes back; and when the Iqama is pronounced he again takes to his heels and when it is finished, he again comes back and continues reminding the praying person of things that he used not to remember when not in prayer till he forgets how much he has prayed". Abu Salama bin 'Abdur-Rahman said, "If anyone of you has such a thing (forgetting the number of rak'at he has prayed) he should perform two prostrations of Sahu (ie forgetfulness) while sitting". Abu Salama narrates this from Abu Huraira.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be mindful during your prayers , Correct your mistakes in worshipping Allah SWT

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains the importance of prayer and how Satan will try to distract us from it. When the Adhan, or call to prayer, is made, Satan runs away so he cannot hear it. After the Mu'adh-dhin finishes his call for prayer, Satan comes back and tries to make us forget how many rak'at we have prayed. If this happens, we should perform two prostrations of Sahu while sitting in order to make up for our mistake. This hadith teaches us that we must be mindful during our prayers and not let anything distract us from worshipping Allah SWT. We must also remember that even if we do make a mistake during our prayers due to distractions or forgetfulness, there are ways for us to correct it so that our worship can still be accepted by Allah SWT.
