Sahih al-Bukhari 1214 (Book 21, Hadith 18) #1169
Spitting Etiquette During Prayer

SUMMARY: When praying, one should not spit in front of them or to their right side, but rather to their left side under their left foot.

Narrated Anas: The Prophet said, "Whenever anyone of you is in prayer, he is speaking in private to his Lord and so he should neither spit in front of him nor on his right side but to his left side under his left foot".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be respectful towards others while praying by not spitting in front or on your right side but rather on your left side under your left foot.

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that when we are in prayer, we are speaking privately with our Lord and should therefore be mindful of our etiquette. We should not spit in front of us or to the right side while praying, but instead should direct it towards the left side under our left foot. This teaches us that even during prayer we must maintain proper etiquette and respect for those around us. It also reminds us that although prayer is a private conversation between ourselves and Allah, it is still important to be mindful of how we conduct ourselves as Muslims even when no one else is watching.
