Sahih Muslim 1748a (Book 32, Hadith 37) #11665
Spoils of War Belong to Allah and the Prophet

SUMMARY: Allah revealed a verse in the Quran to explain that spoils of war are for Allah and the Prophet.

A hadith has been narrated by Mus'ab b. Sa'd who heard it from his father as saying: My father took a sword from Khums and brought it to the Prophet and said: Grant it to me. He refused. At this Allah revealed (the Qur'anic verse):" They ask thee concerning the spoils of war. Say: The spoils of war are for Allah and the Apostle" (viii. 1).

QUICK LESSONS:
Give back resources taken during wars instead of taking them for ourselves .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a verse from the Quran which was revealed by Allah regarding spoils of war. The hadith tells us that Mus’ab b. Sa'd heard it from his father who took a sword from Khums and asked the Prophet to grant it to him, but he refused. At this point, Allah revealed this verse which states that “The spoils of war are for Allah and His Apostle” meaning that all spoils taken during wars should be given to God and His messenger as they belong to them both. This teaches us an important lesson about how we should use our resources wisely in times of conflict or war; instead of taking them for ourselves, we should give them back to God and His messenger so they can be used in ways that benefit everyone equally.
