Sahih Muslim 1746a (Book 32, Hadith 33) #11661
The Burning of Date-Palms

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) ordered the date-palms of Banu Nadir to be burnt and cut, and Allah revealed a verse in response.

It is narrated on the authority of 'Abdullah that the Messenger of Allah ordered the date-palms of Banu Nadir to be burnt and cut. These palms were at Buwaira. Qutaibah and Ibn Rumh in their versions of the tradition have added: So Allah, the Glorious and Exalted, revealed the verse:" Whatever trees you have cut down or left standing on their trunks, it was with the permission of Allah so that He may disgrace the evil-doers" (LIX. 5).

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's order to burn and cut down the date palms of Banu Nadir. This was done as a punishment for their wrongdoings. In response to this action by the Prophet Muhammad, Allah revealed a verse in which He stated that whatever trees were cut down or left standing on their trunks was with His permission so that He may disgrace those who do evil deeds. This hadith teaches us that we should not take matters into our own hands but instead leave it up to God's will and judgement. It also teaches us that we should not commit any wrongdoings as it will lead to consequences from God Himself.
