Sahih Muslim 1673a (Book 28, Hadith 25) #11477
No Compensation for Biting Injury

SUMMARY: This hadith is about two people who got into a physical altercation and one of them bit the other's hand, resulting in the loss of his front teeth. When they brought their dispute to the Prophet, he ruled that there was no compensation for this injury.

Imran b. Husain reported: Ya'la b. Munya or Ibn Umayya fought with a person, and the one bit the hand of the other. And he tried to draw his hand from his mouth and thus his foreteeth ware pulled out. They referred their dispute to Allah's Apostle , whereupon he said: Does any one of you bite as the camel bites? So there is no blood-wit for it.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about two people who got into a physical altercation and one of them bit the other's hand, resulting in the loss of his front teeth. When they brought their dispute to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, he ruled that there was no compensation for this injury as it was not intentional or malicious but rather an act done out of anger or frustration. The Prophet ﷺ used an analogy to explain his ruling by comparing it to how a camel bites when it gets angry or frustrated. This hadith teaches us that we should not take matters into our own hands when we are faced with disputes and instead seek justice through legal means such as arbitration or mediation so that both parties can be satisfied with the outcome without resorting to violence or aggression. It also teaches us that even if someone has been wronged, they should not expect any form of compensation if it was done unintentionally out of anger or frustration as these are natural human emotions which cannot be controlled at times.
