Sahih Muslim 1671a (Book 28, Hadith 12) #11464
Punishment for Apostasy and Killing

SUMMARY: People who apostatized from Islam and killed shepherds were punished by having their hands, feet, and eyes cut off.

Anas b. Malik reported that some people belonging (to the tribe) of Uraina came to Allah's Messenger at Medina, but they found its climate uncongenial. So Allah's Messenger said to them: If you so like, you may go to the camels of Sadaqa and drink their milk and urine. They did so and were all right. They then fell upon the shepherds and killed them and turned apostates from Islam and drove off the camels of the Prophet . This news reached Allah's Apostle and he sent (people) on their track and they were (brought) and handed over to him. He (the Holy Prophet) got their hands cut off, and their feet, and put out their eyes, and threw them on the stony ground until they died.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the punishment for those who apostatize from Islam and kill people. It was reported by Anas b. Malik that some people belonging to the tribe of Uraina came to Allah's Messenger at Medina but found its climate uncongenial. So Allah's Messenger said to them that if they wanted, they could go to the camels of Sadaqa and drink their milk and urine which would make them feel better. They did so but then fell upon the shepherds and killed them before turning away from Islam and driving off the camels of the Prophet. When this news reached Allah's Apostle he sent people on their track who brought them back to him whereupon he got their hands cut off, feet cut off, put out their eyes, threw them on stony ground until they died as a punishment for what they had done wrong - apostasy from Islam as well as killing innocent people without any reason or justification. This hadith teaches us that there are consequences for our actions no matter how small or big it may be; we must always think twice before doing something wrong because it will have repercussions in this life as well as in our afterlife with God Almighty Himself judging us according to our deeds in this world when we meet Him one day soon enough inshaAllah!
