Visiting Mosques and Offering Prayers

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) visiting the Mosque of Quba every Saturday and Ibn Umar following his example by visiting it and offering two rak'at at the rear of Maqam Ibrahim whenever he reached Mecca.

Narrated Nafi': Ibn 'Umar never offered the Duha prayer except on two occasions: I Whenever he reached Mecca; and he always used to reach Mecca in the forenoon. He would perform Tawaf round the Ka'ba and then offer two rak'at at the rear of Maqam Ibrahim. II Whenever he visited Quba, for he used to visit it every Saturday. When he entered the Mosque, he disliked to leave it without offering a prayer. Ibn 'Umar narrated that Allah's Messenger used to visit the Mosque of Quba (sometime) walking and (sometime) riding. And he (ie Ibn 'Umar) used to say, "I do only what my companions used to do and I don't forbid anybody to pray at any time during the day or night except that one should not intend to pray at sunrise or sunset".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of visiting mosques and offering prayers. It was narrated by Nafi’ from Ibn ‘Umar that he never offered Duha prayer except on two occasions; when he reached Mecca or when he visited Quba every Saturday. He would perform Tawaf round the Ka’ba in Mecca before offering two rak’at at the rear of Maqam Ibrahim. Similarly, whenever he entered Quba mosque, he disliked to leave without offering a prayer as this was what Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to do; sometimes walking and sometimes riding. The hadith also teaches us that we should not intend to pray at sunrise or sunset as this is disliked in Islam.
