Sahih al-Bukhari 114 (Book 3, Hadith 56) #114
The Importance of Following the Quran

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) wanted to write a statement for his companions so that they would not go astray, but 'Umar said that the Quran was sufficient and the companions disagreed, leading to a hue and cry.

Narrated 'Ubaidullah bin 'Abdullah: Ibn 'Abbas said, "When the ailment of the Prophet became worse, he said, 'Bring for me (writing) paper and I will write for you a statement after which you will not go astray'. But 'Umar said, 'The Prophet is seriously ill, and we have got Allah's Book with us and that is sufficient for us'. But the companions of the Prophet differed about this and there was a hue and cry. On that the Prophet said to them, 'Go away (and leave me alone). It is not right that you should quarrel in front of me". Ibn 'Abbas came out saying, "It was most unfortunate (a great disaster) that Allah's Messenger was prevented from writing that statement for them because of their disagreement and noise. .

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow teachings from Quran

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about how important it is to follow the teachings of the Quran. When Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was ill, he wanted to write down a statement for his companions so that they would not go astray. However, Umar said that since they already had Allah's book with them, it was enough. This led to disagreement among his companions and caused a lot of noise. In response, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ asked them to leave him alone as it wasn't right for them to quarrel in front of him. This hadith teaches us how important it is for us as Muslims to follow what is written in the Quran and not rely on our own opinions or interpretations when making decisions or forming opinions about matters related to religion or faith. It also teaches us respect - we should never argue in front of someone who is ill or elderly out of respect for their age and condition.
