Walking and Riding to Ka'ba

SUMMARY: A sister of Uqba b. Amir took a vow to walk barefoot to the house of Allah (Ka'ba). Uqba asked the Prophet (PBUH) for his decision and he said that she should both walk and ride.

'Uqba b. Amir reported: My sister took a vow that she would walk bare foot to the house of Allah (Ka'ba). She asked me to inquire from Allah's Messenger about it. I sought his decision and he said: She should walk on foot and ride also.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be mindful when making vows & fulfill them appropriately according to Islamic teachings
EXPLANATIONS:
Uqba b. Amir's sister had taken a vow that she would travel on foot to the House of Allah, which is known as Ka’bah in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. She asked her brother, Uqba, to ask the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ about it so he could give her advice on how she should fulfill her vow. The Prophet ﷺ told her that she should both walk and ride when traveling there; this means that if it was too far for her to travel by foot alone then she could also use other forms of transportation such as riding a horse or taking a car or bus etc., but still make sure some part of the journey is done by walking on foot as well. This hadith teaches us that we must be mindful when making vows because we are responsible for fulfilling them in an appropriate manner according to Islamic teachings; we must also be aware of our physical limitations so we can plan accordingly when fulfilling our vows or any other obligations in life.
