The Duha Prayer in Islam

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Duha prayer and whether or not the Prophet (ﷺ) used to pray it.

Narrated Muwarriq: I asked Ibn 'Umar "Do you offer the Duha prayer?" He replied in the negative. I further asked, "Did 'Umar use to pray it?" He (Ibn 'Umar) replied in the negative. I again asked, "Did Abu Bakr use to pray it?" He replied in the negative. I again asked, "Did the Prophet use to pray it?" Ibn 'Umar replied, "I don't think he did".

QUICK LESSONS:
Perform voluntary prayers such as duha if they fit into your daily routine and lifestyle .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith discusses the Duha prayer, which is a voluntary prayer that Muslims can choose to perform after sunrise and before noon. It is narrated by Muwarriq, who asked Ibn Umar if he offered this prayer, and was told that neither Umar nor Abu Bakr nor the Prophet Muhammad ever prayed it. This suggests that while it is an optional prayer, it may not have been practiced by the companions of the Prophet or even by him himself. From this we can learn that although there are certain prayers which are recommended for us to perform, we should not feel obligated to do them if they do not fit into our daily routine or lifestyle. We should also be mindful of our own limitations when performing any type of worship so as to avoid feeling overwhelmed or discouraged from continuing with our spiritual journey.
