Be just & equitable when dealing with one's children; do not show favoritism or partiality towards any one child over another; make sure you are treating each child fairly & equally; fear God & observe equity in case of your children .

This hadith speaks to the importance of being equitable and fair when dealing with one's children. It tells the story of Nu'man b. Bashir, whose father gave him a gift from his property, but his mother Amra bint Rawaha was not pleased until Allah's Messenger was made a witness to it. When his father went to Allah's Messenger, he asked if he had done the same for all of his sons, and upon hearing that he hadn't, Allah's Messenger warned him to fear God and observe equity in case of his children. His father then returned and got back the gift. The lesson here is that parents should be just and equitable when dealing with their children; they should not show favoritism or partiality towards any one child over another as this can lead to feelings of resentment among siblings which can have long lasting effects on family relationships.
