The Prophet's Prayer in the Ka'ba

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) entering the Ka'ba and offering two rak'at of prayer between two pillars, as well as his advice to Abu Huraira to offer two rak'at of Duha prayer.

Narrated Mujahid: Somebody came to the house of Ibn 'Umar and told him that Allah's Messenger s had entered the Ka'ba. Ibn 'Umar said, "I went in front of the Ka'ba and found that Allah's Messenger had come out of the Ka'ba and I saw Bilal standing by the side of the gate of the Ka'ba. I said, 'O Bilal! Has Allah's Apostle (pbuh) prayed inside the Ka'ba?' Bilal replied in the affirmative. I said, 'Where (did he pray)?' He replied, '(He prayed) Between these two pillars and then he came out and offered a two rak'at prayer in front of the Ka'ba'. " Abu 'Abdullah said: Abu Huraira said, "The Prophet (pbuh) advised me to offer two rak'at of Duha prayer (prayer to be offered after sunrise and before midday)". Itban (bin Malik) said, "Allah's Messenger (pbuh) and Abu Bakr, came to me after sunrise and we aligned behind the Prophet (pbuh) and offered two rak'at".
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَيْفُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الْمَكِّيُّ، سَمِعْتُ مُجَاهِدًا، يَقُولُ أُتِيَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ فِي مَنْزِلِهِ فَقِيلَ لَهُ هَذَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ قَدْ دَخَلَ الْكَعْبَةَ قَالَ فَأَقْبَلْتُ فَأَجِدُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَدْ خَرَجَ، وَأَجِدُ بِلاَلاً عِنْدَ الْبَابِ قَائِمًا فَقُلْتُ يَا بِلاَلُ، صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ فِي الْكَعْبَةِ قَالَ نَعَمْ‏.‏ قُلْتُ فَأَيْنَ قَالَ بَيْنَ هَاتَيْنِ الأُسْطُوَانَتَيْنِ‏.‏ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ فِي وَجْهِ الْكَعْبَةِ‏.‏ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ أَوْصَانِي النَّبِيُّ بِرَكْعَتَىِ الضُّحَى‏.‏ وَقَالَ عِتْبَانُ غَدَا عَلَىَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ بَعْدَ مَا امْتَدَّ النَّهَارُ وَصَفَفْنَا وَرَاءَهُ فَرَكَعَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith narrates an incident where Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) entered the Ka’ba and offered two rak’at of prayer between two pillars inside it. He then came out and offered a further two rak’at in front of it. Additionally, he advised Abu Huraira to offer two rak’ats of Duha prayer after sunrise and before midday. The teachings from this hadith are that we should always strive to pray regularly with dedication and sincerity; even if it is just for a few minutes at a time. We should also be mindful that our prayers should be done in places which are considered sacred or holy by Muslims such as mosques or other places associated with religious activities like pilgrimage sites such as the Ka’ba itself. Furthermore, we can learn from this hadith that we should take advice from those who have more knowledge than us when it comes to matters related to religion so that we can benefit spiritually from their wisdom.
