Inheritance between Muslims and Non-Muslims

SUMMARY: A Muslim cannot inherit from a non-Muslim, and vice versa.

Usama b. Zaid reported Allah's Messenger as saying: A Muslim is not entitled to inherit from a non-Muslim, and a non-Muslim is not entitled to inherit from a Muslim.

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect others' beliefs
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains the Islamic law of inheritance between Muslims and non-Muslims. According to this hadith, a Muslim is not allowed to inherit from a non-Muslim, nor is a non-Muslim allowed to inherit from a Muslim. This law is based on the fact that Muslims are required to follow certain religious laws which may be different than those of other religions or beliefs. Therefore, it would not be fair for one person to benefit financially from another person's religion or beliefs if they do not share them. This hadith also serves as an important reminder that we should respect each other's beliefs even if they differ from our own.
