The Night and Morning Prayers of Prophet Muhammad

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to offer thirteen rak'at in the night prayer and two light rak'at when hearing the Adhan for the morning prayer.

Narrated 'Aisha: Allah's Messenger used to offer thirteen rak'at in the night prayer and on hearing the Adhan for the morning prayer, he used to offer two light rak'at.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ـ رضى الله عنها ـ قَالَتْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ يُصَلِّي بِاللَّيْلِ ثَلاَثَ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً، ثُمَّ يُصَلِّي إِذَا سَمِعَ النِّدَاءَ بِالصُّبْحِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ خَفِيفَتَيْنِ‏.‏

According to this hadith, narrated by 'Aisha, Prophet Muhammad used to offer thirteen rak'at in his night prayer and two light rak'at when he heard the Adhan for the morning prayer.
