SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) cursed those who accept and pay interest, as well as the one who records it and two witnesses to it.

'Abdullah (b. Mas'ud) (Allah be pleased with him) said that Allah's Messenger cursed the one who accepted interest and the one who paid it I asked about the one who recorded it, and two witnesses to it. He (the narrator) said: We narrate what we have heard.

QUICK LESSONS:
Avoid taking part in any form of riba, whether giving or receiving it.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the prohibition of interest or riba in Islam. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ cursed those who accept and pay interest, as well as the one who records it and two witnesses to it. This hadith serves to remind us that Allah has forbidden us from taking part in any form of riba, whether we are giving or receiving it. Riba is a major sin in Islam because it involves taking advantage of someone else’s financial situation for our own benefit without providing any real service or value in return. We should strive to stay away from all forms of riba so that we can remain true believers in Allah’s eyes.
