Sahih Muslim 1593b (Book 22, Hadith 121) #11197
The Value of Fair Trade

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the importance of trading fairly and not taking advantage of others.

Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him) reported that Allah's Messenger deputed a person to collect revenue from Khaibar. He brought fine quality of dates, whereupon Allah's Messenger said: Are all the dates of Khaibar like this)? He said: #We got one sa' (of fine dates) for two Sa's (of inferior dates), and (similarly) two Sa's for three Sa's. Thereupon Allah's Messenger said: Don't do that rather sell the inferior quality of dates for Dirhams (money), and then buy the superior quality with the help of Dirhams.

We should always strive to be fair in our dealings, as Allah's Messenger has taught us. Additionally, this hadith teaches us that it is important to be mindful when trading and not take more than what we are due or give less than what is deserved.
