Sahih Muslim 1581a (Book 22, Hadith 87) #11171
Forbidden Items & Jewish Deception

SUMMARY: Allah and His Messenger have forbidden the sale of wine, carcass, swine and idols. The Jews melted the fat of the carcass and sold it despite being forbidden to do so.

Jabir b. 'Abdullah (Allah be pleased with them) reported Allah's Messenger as saying in the Year of Victory while he was in Mecca: Verily Allah and His Messenger have forbidden the sale of wine, carcass, swine and idols, It was said: Allah's Messenger, you see that the fat of the carcass is used for coating the boats and varnishing the hides and people use it for lighting purposes, whereupon he said: No, it is forbidden, Then Allah's Messenger said: May Allah the Exalted and Majestic destroy the Jews; when Allah forbade the use of fat of the carcass for them, they melted it, and then sold it and made use of its price (received from it).

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow commands of God honestly without deceiving others

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about Allah and His Messenger forbidding certain items from being sold or used. These items include wine, carcasses, swine, and idols. It is mentioned that when Allah forbade the Jews from using fat from a carcass they melted it down anyway in order to sell it for money. This shows that they were not following what was commanded by Allah which is why He destroyed them in this hadith. The main lesson here is that we should always follow what has been commanded by Allah as He knows best what will benefit us in this life and the hereafter. We should also be honest with our dealings with others as lying or deceiving people can lead to severe consequences both in this world and the next world.
