EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the discouragement of keeping pet dogs in Islam. It was narrated by Ibn Umar, who reported that Allah's Messenger said that anyone who keeps a dog other than those meant for herding or hunting will lose two qirats from their deeds every day. A qirat is an ancient unit of measurement and it can be interpreted to mean that the person will lose a significant amount of reward from their good deeds each day if they keep a pet dog. This hadith teaches us to be mindful of our actions and to not do anything which may lead us away from Allah's pleasure. We should also remember that we are responsible for our own actions and must strive to do what pleases Allah, even if it means giving up something we enjoy such as keeping a pet dog.
