The Power of Mercy and Leniency

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the importance of showing mercy and leniency to those who are unable to pay back their loans.

Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah's Messenger as saying: There was a person who gave loans to the people and said to his men: When an insolvent comes to you show him leniency that Allah may overlook our (faults). So when he met Allah, He overlooked his faults (forgave him).
حَدَّثَنَا مَنْصُورُ بْنُ أَبِي مُزَاحِمٍ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ، - قَالَ مَنْصُورٌ حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، وَقَالَ ابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ، وَهُوَ ابْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ، شِهَابٍ عَنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ ‏ "‏ كَانَ رَجُلٌ يُدَايِنُ النَّاسَ فَكَانَ يَقُولُ لِفَتَاهُ إِذَا أَتَيْتَ مُعْسِرًا فَتَجَاوَزْ عَنْهُ لَعَلَّ اللَّهَ يَتَجَاوَزُ عَنَّا ‏.‏ فَلَقِيَ اللَّهَ فَتَجَاوَزَ عَنْهُ

When this person met Allah, He overlooked his faults and forgave him due to his act of mercy. This hadith teaches us the importance of being merciful towards others in order for us to receive mercy from Allah in return. It also encourages us not only be generous but also forgiving when it comes to lending money or any other form of help as it will benefit us in the long run.
