Sahih Muslim 1555b (Book 22, Hadith 17) #11102
The Forbidden Sale of Unripe Fruits

SUMMARY: Allah's Messenger forbade the sale of fruits until they are ripe and red, and asked what would become permissible for one to take from their brother's wealth if Allah hinders the growth of fruits.

Anas b. Malik (Allah be pleased with him) reported that Allah's Messenger forbade the sale of fruits until these are mellow. They (the companions of Anas) said: What is meant by" mellow"? He said: It implies that these became red. He said: When Allah hinders the growth of fruits, (then) what for the wealth of your brother would become permissible for you?

QUICK LESSONS:
Wait until things are ready before trying to benefit from them; Be considerate when dealing with other people’s possessions; Be grateful for whatever God provides us with no matter how small it may seem at first glance; Respect others' possessions

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of not selling unripe fruits. It was narrated by Anas b. Malik that Allah's Messenger forbade the sale of fruits until they are mellow, which means ripe and red in color. He then asked what would become permissible for one to take from their brother's wealth if Allah hinders the growth of fruits, implying that it is important to be mindful when taking something from someone else’s property even if it is not forbidden by law or religion. This hadith teaches us that we should be considerate when dealing with other people’s possessions and wait until things are ready before we try to benefit from them in any way. We should also remember that everything comes from God so we should be grateful for whatever He provides us with no matter how small it may seem at first glance.
