The Prohibition of Renting Land

SUMMARY: Ibn Umar (Allah be pleased with them) was informed of a hadith transmitted by Rafi b. Khadij, which stated that Allah's Apostle ﷺ forbade the renting of land. As a result, Ibn Umar abandoned this practice.

Nafi, reported that Ibn Umar (Allah be pleased with them) used to rent the land, and that he was conveyed the hadith transmitted on the authority of Rafi b. Khadij. He (the narrator) said: He then went to him along with me. He (Rafi) narrated from some of his uncles in which it was mentioned that Allah's Apostle forbade the renting of land. Ibn 'Umar (Allah be pleased with them) then abandoned this practice of renting.

QUICK LESSONS:
Obey commands from Allah’s Prophet

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the prohibition of renting land according to Allah's Apostle. It is narrated by Nafi who reported from Ibn Umar and Rafi b. Khadij that Allah's Apostle forbade the renting of land and as a result, Ibn Umar abandoned this practice. This hadith teaches us to obey the commands of Allah's Prophet even if it means giving up something we are used to doing or something we benefit from financially or otherwise. We should also strive to follow in the footsteps of pious people like Ibn Umar who were willing to give up their practices when they heard about what was commanded by Allah's Prophet even if it meant sacrificing their own interests for it.
