Sahih Muslim 1543e (Book 21, Hadith 104) #11032
Ownership of Trees and Slaves

SUMMARY: The hadith explains that when a person buys a tree or slave, the property of the tree or slave belongs to the seller unless otherwise specified by the buyer.

Abdullah b. Umar (Allah be pleased with them) reported Allah's messenger as saying: He who buys a tree after it has been fecundated, its fruit belongs to one who sells it except when the provision has been laid down by the buyer (that it will belong to him), and he who buys a slave, his property belongs to one who sells him except when a provision has been laid down by the buyer (that it will be transferred to him with the slave).

QUICK LESSONS:
Be mindful and considerate in our dealings with others so that we can ensure everyone is treated fairly and justly.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that when a person buys a tree or slave, they do not automatically become their property. Unless otherwise specified by the buyer, these items remain under ownership of the seller. This is an important lesson in terms of fairness and justice as it ensures that both parties are aware of who owns what before any transaction takes place. It also teaches us to be mindful and considerate in our dealings with others so that we can ensure everyone is treated fairly and justly.
