Sahih Muslim 1542g (Book 21, Hadith 98) #11026
Prohibition of Muzabana

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the prohibition of Muzabana, which is a type of transaction where one sells fresh fruits for dry fruits with a measure.

Abdullah (b. Umar) (Allah be pleased with them) reported Allah's Messenger having forbidden Muzabana, and it implies that one should sell the fresh fruits of his orchard (for dry fruits) or, if it is fresh dates, for dry dates with a measure, or if it is grapes for raisins or if it is corn in the field for dry corn with a measure He (the Holy Prophet) in fact forbade all such transactions. Qutaiba has narrated it with a slight variation of words.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be honest and just when dealing with others in transactions

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith discusses the prohibition of Muzabana, which is a type of transaction where one sells fresh fruits for dry fruits with a measure. This means that it is not allowed to exchange fresh dates for dry dates, grapes for raisins or corn in the field for dry corn with a measure. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ forbade all such transactions as they are considered unfair and unjust. It teaches us to be fair in our dealings and transactions and not take advantage of others by offering them something that does not have equal value in return. We should always strive to be honest and just when dealing with others so that we can maintain good relationships with them.
