Sahih Muslim 1531c (Book 21, Hadith 54) #10982
Rights and Responsibilities in Transactions

SUMMARY: This hadith explains that when two people enter into a transaction, either of them has the right to annul it as long as they are together. If one gives the other the option, then the transaction is binding even if they are separated.

Ibn 'Umar (Allah be pleased with them) reported Allah's Messenger as saying: When two persons enter into a transaction, each of them has the right to annul it so long as they are not separated and are together (at the place of transaction) ; or if one gives the other the right (to annul the transaction) But if one gives the other the option, the transaction is made on this condition (i. e. one has the right to annul the transaction), it becomes binding. And if they are separated after they have made the bargain and none of them annulled it, even then the transaction is binding.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be honest with each other when entering into transactions; Understand your rights and responsibilities before agreeing; Make sure both parties benefit from any agreement made between them; Be mindful and careful when making agreements with others.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that when two people enter into a transaction, each of them has the right to annul it so long as they are together at the place of transaction. If one person gives another person an option to annul it, then this makes the transaction binding even if they separate afterwards. This teaches us that we should be careful and mindful when entering into transactions with others and make sure we understand our rights and responsibilities before agreeing to anything. We should also be honest with each other about our intentions so that both parties can benefit from any agreement made between them.
