How to Pray the Night Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught a man how to pray the night prayer, which is two rak'at followed by two rak'at and so on until the dawn approaches, at which point one should offer one rak'a as witr.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar: A man said, "O Allah's Messenger ! How is the prayer of the night?" He said, "Two rak'at followed by two rak'at and so on, and when you apprehend the approaching dawn, offer one rak'a as witr".

This hadith teaches us that we should take advantage of our nights in worshiping Allah and seeking His forgiveness. It also encourages us to stay up late in order to perform this special prayer, which will bring us closer to Allah and increase our rewards in the hereafter.
