Sahih Muslim 1521 (Book 21, Hadith 25) #10953
Brokering for Desert Dwellers

SUMMARY: This hadith is about not allowing riders carrying merchandise to be met in the way, and townsman should not act as a broker on behalf of a man of the desert.

Ibn 'Abbas (Allah be pleased with them) reported Allah's Messenger as saying: The riders (carrying merchandise) should not be met in the way, and townsman should not sell for a man of the desert. The narrator reported. I said to Ibn 'Abbas: What do these words really imply-" The townsman for the man of the desert"? He said: That he should work as a broker on his behalf.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how people should conduct their business transactions. It teaches us that riders carrying merchandise should not be met in the way, and townsmen should not act as brokers on behalf of desert dwellers. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was teaching us to have good manners when conducting business transactions and to respect each other’s rights. He was also teaching us that we must always treat others fairly, no matter who they are or where they come from. We must never take advantage of someone else’s situation or try to exploit them for our own gain. Instead, we must always strive to do what is right and just so that everyone can benefit from our dealings with one another.
