Prohibiting Selling and Gifting Inheritance Rights of Slaves

SUMMARY: Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) forbade the selling and making a gift of the right of inheritance of a slave.

Ibn Umar (Allah be pleased with them) reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace he upon him) forbade the selling and making a gift of the right of inheritance of a slave. Imam Muslim said: All the persons depend upon Abdullah b. Dinar in regard to this hadith.

QUICK LESSONS:
Treat people with respect no matter what their status is; Show kindness towards others; Remember that everyone deserves dignity even after death; Do not take advantage of anyone in any way.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about Allah's Messenger forbidding the selling or gifting away of the right to inherit from a slave. This means that if someone has a slave in their family, they are not allowed to sell or give away their rights to inherit from them. The Prophet Muhammad was teaching us that we should treat our slaves with respect and kindness even after they have passed away by not taking advantage of them in any way. He also wanted us to remember that slaves were still human beings who deserved dignity even after death. We can learn from this hadith that we should always treat people with respect no matter what their status is in life or death.
